How to read your Aermacchi Serial Number

Before 1970

All Aermacchi models before 1970 use the old ID numbering system.

Your serial number will be stamped into the crankcase, and will use the following format:

  XX          YY                ZZZZZ
   ^           ^                    ^
YEAR     MODEL       INDIVIDUAL ID #

For example, if the serial number is 67SS2475, the motorcycle is a 1967 Sprint SS 250 model and 2475 is its individual ID number.

Special note about 1969

Though the old numbering system was used, as described above, Harley left the number off at the beginning in 1969.  For example, if you had a 1969 Sprint SS 350, your serial number would simply start with "SS" and be followed by your bike's individual ID number.

1970 to 1978 (see chart below for model codes)

         XX                        YYYYY                   HX*
         ^                            ^                        ^
MODEL CODE         INDIVIDUAL ID#         YEAR

*Where "X" is a digit from 0 to 8.  H0 is 1970, H1 is 1971, H2 is 1972, etc.
